An open email to Philippine Long Distance Telecommunications

Dear PLDT,

Thank you for the response. It sure is lovely and re-assuring to know that somewhere in this chaotic world of customer service here in the Philippines, there are robots who are designed to have a heart and care for the real reason of your existence, us customers. Truly a feat in engineering and business acumen: employing robots instead of real people to engage potential customers. This way the real people can focus their attention on... I don't really know what but I trust your business wisdom that the real people are doing something fantastic.

The fact that you replied to me after I communicated to you ages ago (email? phone? I forgot) astounds me. Also, the method you employed which is email is something to marvel for. Who wants a personal interaction with a live person?

And the content of the message; Brilliant. It's inhuman and vague to make sure that whatever customers talk to you about there's only one canned message to answer them all! Talk about efficiency.

Now, to go back to the real reason why I reached out to you... Well, I can no longer remember. But it doesn't really matter. I trust that you, PLDT, with your forward-thinking approach in customer service will be able to make things right whatever it was that I brought out to you.

Thank you very much and rest assured that I will talk to my family and friends about this awesome experience.

And you still think Filipinos are the kings & queens of texting

Until his recent immersion in music studies, Mr. Bae texted 200 to 300 messages a day. Ms. Ha averages 150 to 200.

“That’s average among my friends,” she said defensively, glancing at her mother sitting nearby. “Some send as many as 500 a day.”

Ok. Let's put this in perspective.

Let's assume that a Korean is awake 12 hours a day. 500 text messages in a day would be like 41 to 42 messages per hour. Sweet jesus.

Apple iPad (official promo vid)

Just announced today and will start hitting US stores in April. Outside US? Only a matter of time.

Music, movies, books, office apps, games, internet... think iPod Touch (+ 3G option) on a 10" LED screen. Faster at 1Ghz A4 processor. Up to 10 hours of juice.

The iPhone started as an iPod + internet communicator + phone but now it is an electronic swiss knife of sorts. One can only imagine the possibilities the iPad can offer in the future.

"A major new product that we're really excited about." - Steven P. Jobs

The new products we are planning to release this year are strong, starting this week with a major new product that we’re really excited about.

This is probably the first time in 2010 that Steve Jobs has been directly quoted to refer to a product that has has been rumored all year long last year (not counting those indirect quotes from sources familiar with the whatever).

I look forward to the day when all I need to make things happen is a mobile device, the cloud, some rock music and a foul mouth.
